What we do: Our club participates, in concert with Lions Clubs from around
the world, in programs to preserve sight and prevent blindness. The Cayucos Lions Club provides access
to vision care for local people who might not otherwise enjoy the miracle of sight that many of us take for granted.
We also take part in many local activities and events.
The Cayucos Lions Club sponsors the annual 4th of July/Independence Day Parade and many of
the activities that have become part of the local holiday celebration. We have an annual BBQ at the Vet's Hall immediately
following the parade.
For seventeen years, in cooperation with the Cayucos Elementary School District, the Cayucos Lions Club
has sponsored the Annual Cayucos Lions Club Flag Day Celebration. This event helps teach students about
the spirit and heritage of our country, and about the proud symbol of our country, our values and our freedoms.
The Cayucos Lions Club also sponsors and maintains the Cayucos Skate Park. Located
on County property adjacent to the Veteran's Memorial Building, this park provides a well-designed facility in which skateboarders
and skaters can demonstrate their moves and develop new skills.
We sponsor a local Cub Scout Pack and a Boy Scout Troop. The Boy Scouts
of America is the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. The
mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by
instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The aim of Cub Scouting is to help boys grow into good citizens
who are strong in character and personally fit. We're proud to serve our community by helping prepare the leaders of
tomorrow.
We fund, in cooperation with the County of San Luis Obispo and the Cayucos Lioness Club, a free summer
swim program for the youth of our community. The pool at Hardy Park is a great place for young and old alike
to swim and relax.
The Cayucos Lions Club and the Cayucos Lioness Club provide scholarships for qualified Cayucos graduates
from Morro Bay, Coast Union, Leffingwell and Mission Prep High Schools. Recipients are selected based on scholarship,
need, community involvement, citizenship and other factors. We've helped many young people progress on the path to a
university education.
The Cayucos Lions Club participates in the Caltrans Adopt-a-Highway program. This program,
which began in 1989, has been one of the truly successful government-public partnerships of our time. Since 1989 more than
120,000 Californians have kept over 15, 000 shoulder-miles of roadside clean.
